Paperwork collected in support of a radiation safety program has traditionally been kept in a series of binders that are provided to regulators when they arrive for the unannounced inspections. Times have changed, and many sites are now using electronic records for their radiation safety programs. This is acceptable to most regulatory authorities, however there are some cautions.
Backup. The regulators do not allow “the disc crashed” as an excuse. The radiation control program records must be backed up.
Availability: Someone must be available to search the electronic records and print those that the regulators want. The inspections are unannounced, so this can be problematic at times.
Spreadsheets: The Excel spreadsheets below cover some of the routine forms that most radiation programs need to maintain. Use them as you please.
